What’s the difference between a cat and a comma?

One has claws at the end of its paws, and one is a pause at the end of a clause!

I know what you’re thinking: what sort of strange, lonely, virtual world have I stumbled upon?  There’s a lady making jokes about cats and grammar, and I feel like any minute she might suggest that I should spend my Friday nights with a Stouffer’s-For-One microwave dinner and a re-run of Everybody Loves Raymond (if you do, try the “Who’s Handsome” episode from Season 1: I don’t want to give anything away, but I will tell you that some family members disagree about some topics, but later, they don’t disagree!  Also, the brother on the show is very tall).

You’re entitled to your concerns.  But the real goal of this website is not to reinforce cat-lady stereotypes.  The goal is to provide a virtual forum to address the issues you’re facing with grammar and writing.

If you slept through your high school English classes and don’t know a noun from a nougat, then Building Blocks is the place to start.  From basic definitions to helpful links, Building Blocks is your home base.

Next, head over to Common Errors to find out if you’re guilty of any number of the most common spelling and grammar-related crimes.  Who knows – things could get so intense that TNT will option this website for a show.  Law and Order: SVU (Subjunctive Verbs Undercover) has a nice ring to it. Or CSI: My Antonyms.  I could keep going, but the point is, your professors are probably marking you down for at least one of these issues as we speak, so check in, and check in often.

And finally, the Word of the Week.  This one is pretty self-explanatory.  If our vocabularies weren’t constantly expanding, then we’d still be speaking like two-year olds.  And trust me, if you’re in a job interview, and your future boss asks you for three words that describe you, it’s a very bad idea to point at your resume and say, “Dat mine, mommy.”
